Mark Galstad's number 9. He gained dirt track fame in this car.
- The pink lady was owned by Ben Eischens. Gary and Ricky Eischens are in the car along with the Fischer sisters.
Mark Galstad’s #9 was a 1937 Ford. The engine originally was a 100 hp, Canadian “Z” block, flathead ford. It was bored out as far as possible without sleeving, had a Iskandarian (sp?) 440 “snapper” cam, aluminum flywheel, and ran on methanol (wood alcohol) under a pressurized fuel system. Mark used Lincoln valve springs and a Lincoln radiator. Bill Gilow (Bill’s Radiator Shop) did the machining on the block and was a big help to Mark. Bill raced many years before in the Sioux Falls, SD area. Over the years Red and Bill Seaman, Mickey Gilland, Mike Young, Jack Sawatzky, Freddie Hass, Bill and Jack Rebstock, and I’m sure a few more served variously as pit crew, “expert” advisors, and lent moral support. Mark raced at the old Renville “Dust Bowl”, Willmar, Bird Island, Heron Lake, Shakopee, Huron South Dakota and probably some other tracks I can’t remember. I believe Mark had the most success at Willmar where he won the season championship one year.
