Smith, Gilbertson, and Tietz top Redwood Mains – 08/22/2010
Redwood Falls, MN (August 22nd, 2010) – Jesse Smith made his first appearance of the season a good one taking the IMCA Sprint Car win Sunday night at Redwood Speedway. Matt Gilbertson led every lap from the pole scoring the win in the IMCA Modified division while Kent Tietz scored his fifth win of the season in the IMCA Stock finale. Bruce Lundin turned in a dominating performance scoring the win in the Hobby Stock feature event while Brandon Davis scored his third Redwood Speedway feature win of the season in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified finale. Jake Schroeder (Sport Compact) and Monte Heiderscheidt (Bombers) each turned in impressive runs as well during Redwood Building Center and Reefer Racing Supply night at the races.
Although Monte Heiderscheidt started the event in the sixth position, it was not enough to deny him yet another Bomber win Sunday night at Redwood Speedway. Heiderscheidt was stalked to the line by fellow row three starter Jacob Olson. Eighth starter Derrick Kronbach moved up five positions during the duration of the A-main to finish in the third spot ahead of row six starter Jeremy Negen. Tony Frietag of Fairfax also scored a top five finish behind the wheel of his #22T machine.
The Sport Compact A-main was won by first time visitor Jake Schroeder. Schroeder moved out front from his eighth starting position receiving heavy pressure from Michael Fonteyn during the ladder stages of the event. In the end, however, it was Schroeder taking the win over Fonteyn, ninth starter Jameson Sietsema, Tim Huseby and track point leader Kris Stoeckman.
The Hobby Stock A-main was dominated by polesitter Bruce Lundin. Lundin took the lead from the get go and was never seriously challenged on the way to his second Redwood Speedway victory of the season. Eighth starter Dan Veenstra steadily worked his way to the front of the field coming home second with Ryan McMullen third, Jesse Timm fourth, and Andy Windschitl fifth. Rod Manthey and Dale McMullen each picked up heat race wins earlier in the show for the Hobby Stock division, which boasted 14 entrants.
Current WISSOTA Midwest Modified National Point leader Brandon Davis scored yet another win in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified finale. Davis steadily worked his way to the front disposing of Brett Hoium for the lead on lap seven on his way to victory. Sixth starter Tyler Limoges had a strong car as well finishing second with Dan Menk third, Hoium fourth, and Adam Ecker the final member of the top five. Ecker took the win in heat race one with Hoium taking the win in heat race two.
Belle Plaine, MN hotshoe Ken Tietz came from dead last on the starting grid to score the win during the 20-lap IMCA Stock Car A-main. Michael Bruns looked as if he had his first win of the season locked in before a late caution allowed Tietz to complete the worst to first maneuver. Bruns held on for the second spot ahead of Dan Mackenthun, 10th starter Jeff Larson, and Matt Speckman.
Brandon Allen looked as if he was set to take his first Redwood Speedway victory before his machine stalled with eight laps remaining handing the lead and eventual win over to Jesse Smith in the IMCA Sprint Car finale. Smith looked strong during the during of the A-main taking the win in dominating fashion. Leigh Thomas followed the 10th starting Smith to the stripe with Scott VanMaanen in the third spot. Row five starter Richard Smith looked strong as well finishing in the fourth spot with Dan Menk rounding out the top five. The aforementioned Allen and Curt Lund each scored heat race wins for the IMCA Sprint Cars.
The final event of the evening proved to be a barn burner with the feature winner not being decided until the final set of turns. Eventually, however, it was Matt Gilbertson taking his second Redwood Speedway win of the season in an absolutely barn burner over a hard charging Curt Lund. Jim Horejsi ended the event in the second spot with Larry Revier third, 10th starter Clint Hatlestad fourth, and Mike Gregg fifth.
