Mackenthun seals perfect weekend with Redwood Speedway checkers..
Redwood Falls, MN (July 28th, 2013) – Hamburg, MN driver Dan Mackenthun capped off a perfect weekend by picking up the IMCA Stock Car Feature win Sunday night at Redwood Speedway. Mackenthun, who picked up a $4,000 win Friday night at Hancock County Speedway in Britt, Iowa, followed it up with consecutive feature wins at Arlington Saturday and “The Red House” Sunday. Other winners Sunday night included Curt Lund (IMCA Modifieds), Jordan Meine (IMCA Northern Sport Mods), Justin Luinenburg (IMCA Hobby Stocks), Stephanie Forsberg (IMCA Sport Compact) and Frank Billmeier (Redwood Speedway Bombers). Cool temperatures and a multi-grooved surface promoted side by side racing all evening long during Arneson Distributing night at Redwood Speedway.
Morgan, Mn driver Frank Billmeier got the feature festivities underway with a dominating performance in the Redwood Speedway Bomber division. Billmeier, who started on the outside of the front row, led start to finish in his black #7 machine. Rollin Timm turned in a great performance coming home second ahead of eighth starting Joe Huseby. Monte Heiderscheidt and last week’s winner Melvin Maddock rounded out the top five running order for the Bombers.
The IMCA Hobby Stock A-main feature a great battle between Tory Harazin and Justin Luinenburg. For eight laps out of the 12 scheduled, Harazin and Luinenburg went side by side for the lead with Luinenburg eventually winning the battle with two laps left up on the board. Neil Forsberg and Cory Probst battled for third during the ladder stages of the event, both capitalizing on Harazin’s misfortune with two laps remaining. In the end it was Luinenburg taking the victory ahead of Forsberg, Probst, Roger Jenniges and Nathan Gegner. Probst and Harazin each garnered heat race wins earlier in the evening for the Hobby Stocks, who boasted 14 entries.
Like Billmeier in the Bombers, the IMCA Sport Compact main event was dominated by Slayton, MN driver Stephanie Forsberg. Forsberg jumped out front early on and was never seriously challenged during the duration of the event. Ben Wilhelmi, Matt Engesser, Jon Joehnck and Tori Groebner all turned in top five performances, as well. Forsberg completed the first part of her clean sweep earlier in the evening when she picked up the win in the division’s lone heat race.
With the track sporting two distinct grooves the IMCA Sport Mods took to the speedway for their 15-lap A-main. A couple different drivers led early before Springfield, MN pilot Jordan Meine methodically worked his way to the front from his eighth starting position taking the lead from Justin Remus near the midway point of the race. Two thousand twelve Redwood Speedway Sport Mod track champion Matt Looft used a maneuverable car to his advantage moving up seven positions to finish second behind Meine at the line. Out front it was all Meine as Jordan went on to take his second Redwood Speedway win of the season. Looft, sixth starting Randy Fischer, Larry Revier and Josh Larsen were also members of the top five. Out of the 14 entries entered, just one did not finish the feature event.
With 19 of the best in the business on hand, the IMCA Stock Cars rolled out onto the speedway next for their 20-lap A-main feature event. Gary Mattison and Jesse Timm shared the front row starting duties as head flagman Layne Roberts dropped the green. Timm immediately jumped to the top side of the speedway early on and was scored the leader at the conclusion of the first lap. Back behind, third row starters Shaun and Mike Bruns quickly moved their way forward and worked side by side for the second position. Tenth starting Mackenthun used the bottom of the speedway to his advantage as he steadily worked forward while most drivers worked the top side. Mackenthun took the lead on lap eight while Michael and Shaun continued to work side by side for second. Back deep in the field 14th starter Randy Brands pedaled his #271 machine through the slick with rapid fluidity as he entered the top five with six laps remaining. Brands, who hails from Boyden, Iowa brought fellow Iowa traveler Chris Palsrok with him in the process. A chain of restarts bunched up the field behind Mackenthun during the ladder stages of the event with Rich Gregoire taking full advantage. Gregoire was able to move back by both Shaun and Mike with two laps remaining taking home the second spot in the process. Out front it was Mackenthun taking home his third win of the weekend. Gregoire, Shaun Bruns, Mike Bruns and Brands rounded out a star studded top five. Palsrok, Jake Bruns, Bob Rebstock, Dan Veenstra and Kevin Bruns all posted top 10 finishes for the Stock Cars who put on a tremendous A-main feature event.
Redwood Falls’ own Dalton Magers showed the way early on in the IMCA Modified finale. Magers glued his #M8 to the bottom of the speedway and was scored the leader at the conclusion of the first lap. Sixth starter Curt Lund quickly moved into second on lap two before a couple yellow flags bunched up the field behind Magers early on. The green flag waved over the field once again with Magers powering out of turn two in the lead. Lund, however, was glued to his rear bumper and was able to pull even with Dalton as the two drag raced down the front stretch on lap four. Lund stuck his #87 to the bottom in turn one overtaking Magers for the lead in the process. Back in traffic Tyler Limoges and Brandon Beckendorf tried to use the top side of the speedway to move forward but were unable to move by Trent Loverude for the third spot. In the end it was Lund taking his third Redwood Speedway win of the season. Magers, who turned in a great run, settled for second with Loverude third, Beckendorf fourth and Limoges fifth.
