By Ray Beste

Redwood Falls, MN (June 24th, 2012) – Redwood Falls’ own Curt Lund inched closer to his milestone 100th win by picking up the IMCA Modified win Sunday night at Redwood Speedway. Lund also reined victorious in IMCA Sprint Car action while Shaun Bruns out-dueled Ken Tietz to take the checkers first the IMCA Stock Car finale. Adam Ecker (IMCA Sport Mods), Adam Snyder (IMCA Hobby’s), Rod Manthey (Outlaw Hobby Stock), Nate Coopman (IMCA Sport Compact) and Matt Olson (Bombers) all took home impressive wins as well during KLGR night this past Sunday night. Fans, drivers and racing enthusiasts from all over Southern Minnesota once again gathered for some awesome Speedway Motors IMCA racing series action at the high speed 1/2 mile.

As customary at Redwood Speedway, the Bombers got the night’s feature events underway. After a few early attempts to seize control, Matt Olson took the lead with Monte Heiderscheidt in hot pursuit. The #52 of Heiderscheidt did his best to track down Olson while the duo distanced themselves from the rest of the field. Frank Billmeier, Nathan Gegner and Tony Frietag battled for the third position while Olson negotiated lapped cars out front. In the end it was all Olson taking home the victory. Heiderscheidt, Billmeier, Gegner and Frietag each took home top five finishes, as well. Olson was also victorious in the division’s lone heat race.

The IMCA Sport Compact A-main featured a great duel between two of the best in the business. Aaron Betz and Nate Coopman traded the lead on three different occasions before Coopman took the lead for good with three laps remaining. On the final trip around Betz did his best to regain the lead but fell up short by a car length at the line. Betz, Nikkya Betz, Stephanie Forsberg and Jason Baune.

Norwood, MN ace Rod Manthey took the lead early on and never looked back on the way to his first win of the season in the Outlaw Hobby Stock A-main. Defending track Champion Dan Veenstra held the second position during the ladder stages of the event with Jeff Petersen finishing third. Randy Fischer and a hard charging Andy Windschitl rounded out the top five running order for the Outlaw Hobby’s who ran their event without a yellow.

The IMCA Hobby Stock main event was a family affair with Milroy, MN brothers Adam and Brad Snyder battling for the lead during the duration of the 12-lap A-main. Brad would take a peak to the inside of his brother several times before settling for second at the line. Fifth starter Josh Telecky ran a great race coming home a strong third for the second straight week with Chris Isaacson and two time winner Dale McMullen finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Shane Harazin and Isaacson took home heat race wins earlier in the evening for the IMCA Hobby Stocks, who featured 13 entries.

Bruce Egeland took the lead on lap one of the IMCA Sport Mod A-main. Egeland led early on despite heavy pressure from the #0 car of Justin Remus. Back in traffic row five starters Adam Ecker and Matt Looft made their way to the front while Egeland continued to lead out front. On lap four, Egeland jumped the cushion exiting turn four allowing Justin Remus to take the lead. A few mid race restarts bunched the field up behind Remus with Ecker and Looft taking full advantage. With five laps still up on the board, Ecker took the lead from Remus bringing Looft with him in the process. Looft did everything he could to reel in Ecker during the ladder stages of the event but it was not enough to deny Ecker his second Redwood Speedway win of the season. Looft, Ben Chukuske, Kyle Remus and Egeland were members of the top five as well along with Ecker. Egeland and Ecker each reined victorious in heat race action earlier in the show for the IMCA Sport Mods who drew 14 entries.

The IMCA Sprint Car A-main was dominated by Curt Lund. After starting eighth, Lund took the lead on lap three and never looked back on his way to victory. South Dakota traveler Troy Schreurs moved forward from his sixth starting spot to finish second ahead of Cam Schafer. Derrik Lusk and Travis Zieske rounded out the top five for the Winged Warriors who put on a great show. Mike Stien took home the win in the division’s lone heat race.

The IMCA Stock A=main featured a great battle between past champions Shaun Bruns and Ken Tietz. Tietz grabbed the lead early on from his row four starting position bringing fellow row four starter Shaun Bruns with him. Back in traffic 17th starter Dan Mackenthun sliced and diced his way through the field with rapid fluidity. Mackenthun made a great charge moving all the way up to fourth at the finish. Out front Bruns was able to sneak by Tietz on a lap 14 restart while Jim Richert rode in third. During the final six trips around Tietz pulled even several times but was not able to overtake Bruns for the point. Out front it was Bruns taking home his second Redwood Speedway win of the season. Tietz, Richert, Mackenthun and Matt Speckman followed Bruns to the line. Richert and Shane Bruns were victorious in qualifying action earlier in the program for the IMCA Stock Cars who once again put on a phenomenal A-main, feature event.

IMCA Modified rookie Tom Silver took the lead on lap one of the IMCA Modified finale. Silver rode the cushion on the opening circuit and was scored the leader at the conclusion of the first lap. Silver showed the way while Jim Horejsi rode in second. On lap three Horejsi edged ahead of Silver entering turn three taking the lead exiting turn four. The yellow flag wave over the field twice during the middle stages of the event which allowed the field to bunch up behind Horejsi. Brandon Beckendorf and Curt Lund rode in second and third when the second yellow waved eight laps in. Beckendorf chose the bottom giving Lund the top for the Delaware double-file restart. The green dropped over the field once again with Horejsi, Beckendorf and Lund battling for the lead. Lund climbed the ladder in turn one, slammed the right rear on the cushion and split Beckendorf and Horejsi taking the lead down the backstretch. Back in traffic, 14th starter Tyler Limoges began to work his way to the front. Limoges moved up eight positions during the duration of the A-main finishing just outside the top five in sixth. In the end it was Lund taking home second Redwood Speedway IMCA Modified feature win of the season. Beckendorf, Horejsi, Justin Bjorklund and Dan Menk followed to the line during the 20-lap finale.
