Lund and Bruns masterful in makeup mains at Redwood Speedway – May 27th, 2012

Lund and Bruns masterful in makeup mains

Redwood Falls, MN (May 27th, 2012) – Although some nasty weather blew into the area during feature time, fans from all across Southern Minnesota were treated to some great racing Sunday, May 27th at Redwood Speedway. Before the rains came victories were taken home by Frank Billmeier in the Bomber division, Aaron Betz in the IMCA Sport Compact division and Dale McMullen in the IMCA Hobby Stock division. The remaining five features were made up this past week during Affordable Dirt Works night at the Speedway. As always, the boys and girls of summer put on a tremendous show for the fans.

The first makeup feature of the night belonged to the Outlaw Hobby Stocks with Ryan McMullen and Jeff Petersen manning the front row starting duties. As the field filed into turns one and two, third started Jayson Firle ducked under each of the front starters and took the lead as the filed raced out of turn two. McMullen would pressure the backside of Firle for the remaining laps but it was not enough was Jayson would go on to take home his first Outlaw Hobby Stock feature win of the season. McMullen, Andy Windschitl, Randy Fischer and veteran Bill Braunworth rounded out the top five running order.

The next item on the docket was the IMCA Sport Mod makeup. Springfield’s Jordan Meine blasted off from the front row and took the early lead with the “Swea City Outlaw” Matt Looft in second. The two front runners would run side by side for the duration of the 15-lap event until two to go when Looft made the pass for the lead. Meine turned in a great run holding off Adam Ecker for second with Justin Remus and eighth starting Charles Clobes also members of the top five.

The IMCA Sprint Car A-main makeup was led start to finish by defending track Champion, Cam Schafer. Schafer took the lead from his outside row one starting position and never looked back on his way to victory. Curt Lund rallied for his sixth starting position to finish second while Dan Grams finished third. Bruce Allen and Jackson, Mn traveler Brandon Halverson each turned in top five performances as well for the Winged Warriors who ran 15-circuits. Gaylord’s Mike Stien took a hard roll in turns one and two but checked out okay. Everyone in attendance was glad to see Mike walk away from his #4 Sprinter.

Second year IMCA Stock Car ace Matt Speckman took the early lead on lap one of the IMCA Stock makeup A-main. Speckman showed the way early on while a hard charging Jeff Larson and Shaun Bruns battled for the second spot. While most cars worked the bottom of the speedway, Bruns blasted his #71D around the top pulling even with Larson for second on lap eight. Bruns continued his onslaught toward the front as he worked by Larson for the second spot and pulled even Speckman for the lead. With six to go Bruns took the lead from Speckman bringing Larson with him. The front duo distanced themselves from the rest of the pack while Dan Mackenthun claimed third. Larson threw everything but the kitchen sink at Bruns in the remaining laps but it was not enough to deny Shaun his first Redwood Speedway checkers of 2012. Larson, Mackenthun, Bob Rebstock and Matt Speckman rounded out the top five running order for the IMCA Stock Cars.

The final makeup of the evening belonged to the IMCA Modified division with veteran Mike Gregg taking the early. Tyler Limoges settled into second with Josh Rogotzke in third. Gregg led the first three circuits while eighth starter Curt Lund was on the move. Lund grabbed third from Rogotzke when the first caution waved on lap three. On the restart, Lund climbed the hill in turn one, crossed over Limoges and slipped by Gregg narrowly taking the lead as the field raced into turns three and four. Back in traffic, Danube, MN driver Brandon Beckendorf was on a spirited march toward the front. Beckendorf, who started 11th, battled side by side with Limoges for the third spot during the ladder stages of the event while Lund was gone out front. In the end it was Lund taking the win ahead of Rogotzke, Beckendorf, Limoges and Mike Gregg.
