Horejsi, Menk and Fischer highlight first time winners at Redwood

Redwood Falls, MN (August 8th, 2010) – IMCA Modified veteran Jim Horejsi collected his first IMCA Modified feature win of the season Sunday night at Redwood Speedway. Curt Lund scored yet another win in the IMCA Sprint Car division while Shaun Bruns garnered his second win of the season in the IMCA Stock Car finale. Dan Menk took top honors in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division while Randy Fischer took home his first win of the season in the Hobby Stock feature. Last, but certainly not least, Monte Heiderscheidt took home the feature win in the bomber division. Warm temperatures greeted racers and fans for Hometown Bank and Charity Night at the races.

The Bomber division got the night’s feature festivities underway with Sleepy Eye, MN product Monte Heiderscheidt taking the win. Heiderscheidt looked strong during the duration of the event while perennial front-runner Jeremy Negen of Olivia, MN finished second. Jacob Olson, Nathan Gegner, and Rollin Timm each scored top five finishes as well for the Bombers. Derrick Kronbach took the win in heat race one while Heiderscheidt completed the first leg of his clean sweep by taking the win in heat race two.

The Hobby Stock A-main proved to be a great one with row two starter Randy Fischer working his way to the front early on. Fourth row starter Rod Manthey quickly worked his way through the field bringing Andy Windschitl with him while Fischer raced out front. A few yellows halted action before order was restored on lap seven. On the restart, Manthey climbed the hill in turn one in an attempt to overtake Fischer for the lead. Fischer, however, held the groove and the lead for the time being as the duo raced off of turn two. On the final trip around, Manthey tried a move to the inside of Fischer but it was not enough as Randy went on to take his first Redwood Speedway win of the season. Manthey turned in another top two run coming home second ahead of Windschitl, Jayson Firle, and Dale McMullen. Fischer completed his clean sweep by taking the victory in heat race one while Ryan McMullen reigned victorious in heat race two.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next on the docket with 16 drivers taking the green. Former WISSOTA Modified National Champion Lorin Johnson of Miller, SD took the early lead while the field battled behind. Tim Ims quickly moved into second while Johnson continued to race out front. Four laps into the contest, Ims tried to make a power move on Johnson as the field entered turn three. Ims, however, made contact with the left front of Johnson and was sent to the back. That put Dan Menk in the second spot with Brian Haben along side him for the Delaware double file start. When the green dropped again, Menk ventured to the cushion in turn one blasting by Johnson for the lead as the field worked down the backstretch. Johnson was left to do battle for second with Haben while Menk continued to stretch his advantage out front. Ims quickly began to work his way back through the field as the speedway sported to solid lanes for racing. Trent Loverude looked strong during the 15-lap affair as He and Kyle Remus battled for the fifth spot with one lap remaining. Remus was able to edge out Loverude at the line in a photo finish. In the end, however, it was Menk taking his first Redwood Speedway feature win of the season. Johnson proved once again why he is one of the best in the business coming home second ahead of Haben, Ims, and Remus. Ims, Tyler Limoges, and Menk each tallied heat race wins earlier in the show for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds.

The IMCA Stock Car competitors rolled out onto the speedway next with 15 laps up on the board. Jake Bruns took the early lead while fifth starter Shaun Bruns nipped at his heels riding in second. Shaun Bruns moved out front on lap three while Kent Tietz began to make his march to the front bringing Dan Mackenthun with him. Matt Speckman looked as if he might have the car to beat on lap eight as he closed up on the backside of Bruns for the lead. With six laps remaining, Tietz lost the handle of the #110 machine in turn one bringing out the yellow which bunched up the field behind Bruns. Mackenthun was able to sneak by Speckman for the second spot on the restart while Bruns continued to lead out front. Jeff Larson finished the final few laps with authority as he moved up to fourth while Mackenthun edged Speckman for the second spot. Out front it was all Bruns taking his second Redwood Speedway win in the process. Mackenthun continued his string of consistent finishes coming home second ahead of Speckman, Larson, and IMCA Stock Car rookie Patrick Kohn (2nd top five in as many weeks). Bob Rebstock took the victory in heat race one while Jake Bruns held off the field to take the win in heat two.

The IMCA Sprint Cars were next with some heavy hitters in town for the $600 to win A-main. Dwain Wilmes took the early lead while AJ Stevens quickly moved into second. Lund made the extreme high side of the speedway work to his advantage as he took the lead on lap four. Gaylord, MN product Jason Tostenson looked strong as well as he moved into second behind Lund. Back in traffic, Jordan Martens ran right up against the turn one wall as he moved forward several positions as well during the 15-lap affair. Tostenson looked strong as he stayed within striking distance of Lund while Brandon Allen and Wilmes battled for the fifth spot. Tostenson tried everything in his power to overtake Lund in the remaining laps but it was not enough to deny Curt his ninth Redwood Speedway IMCA Sprint Car feature win of the season. Tostenson looked very strong taking home the second spot followed by Stevens, Martens, and Dwain Wilmes. Wilmes and Stevens each garnered heat race wins earlier in the evening for the IMCA Sprint Car division, which boasted 11 cars.

The IMCA Modified A-main was dominated by Echo, MN driver Jim Horejsi. Horejsi, who returned to the IMCA ranks just a few short weeks ago, looked strong during the 15-lap A-main taking the win un-challenged. The battle for the second was a good one, however, between Curt Lund and Brandon Beckendorf. The duo raced side by side for the final three laps of the event before Lund was able to take the second spot. On the final trip around, Horejsi made no mistakes and went on to score the win. Lund, Beckendorf, Jeff Maasch, and Todd Brockman were all members of the top five as well for the IMCA Modified division.

  1. Ok, you guys, none of you are even in that class. So I am gonna AGREE with Nancy its not fair. If this happened in your racers class what would you do ?? Laugh and ignore it? Probably NOT!! By the way, Nancy never said anything bad about the race track or the officials!! So, you all need to back off and think what you would do if it was in there class!!!!!!!
