Beckendorf wires field for IMCA Modified win at Redwood – 08/29/2010
Redwood Falls, MN (August 29th, 2010) – Redwood Falls, MN native Tyler Limoges moved out front early on taking the win during WISSOTA Midwest Modified action Sunday night at Redwood Speedway. Brandon Beckendorf turned in a mighty impressive performance taking the win in the IMCA Modified A-main while Curt Lund scored the win in the IMCA Sprint Car finale. Michael Bruns picked up his first IMCA Stock Car win of the season during that divisions feature event while Jacob Olson reigned victorious in the Bomber A-main. Last, but certainly not least it was Kris Stoeckman holding off a hard charging Jake Schroeder to take the win in the Sport Compact finale. Fans from all over the area packed the grandstand for Weltsch Equipment night at Redwood Speedway.
As customary at Redwood Speedway the Bomber division got the night’s feature events underway with 13 entrants taking to the speedway. Side by side racing took place all over the speedway with Jacob Olson ultimately taking the checkers ahead of Derrick Kronbach. Jeremy Negen turned in a steady run in the third spot ahead of Daniel Kronbach and the #52 of Monte Heiderscheidt. Kelly Clausen, Rollin Timm, Nathan Gegner, Tony Frietag, and Cynthia Minel all turned in top ten performances as well with Olson taking the win. Frietag and Minkel each scored a heat race win earlier in the evening for the Bomber division.
The Sport Compact A-main proved to be a good one with a nice field of 13 cars on hand to do battle. Track point leader Kris Stoeckman held off last week’s winner Jake Schroeder to take the win padding his point lead in the process. The hard charging Schroeder settled for the second spot ahead of first time visitor Aaron Betz of Avoca. Dan Jacobus looked strong during the duration of the A-main coming home in the fourth spot ahead of Jason Gruendemann, who rounded out the top five. Chris Bornitz and Stoeckman each scored heat races earlier in the show for the Sport Compact division.
The Hobby Stock A-main proved to be a war of attrition with all 17 drivers trying to make a bid for the lead. Wood Lake’s Jesse Timm took the lead from the get go and looked as if he might spoil the party behind the wheel of his #7T machine. As the race wore on, however, the #11 of Rod Manthey steadily worked his way toward the front. Ryan McMullen and Adam Snyder battled for the second spot behind Timm while Manthey cracked the top five with eight laps remaining. A myriad of yellow flags slowed action during the middle stages of the event before Timm brought the field around to the green flag once again. On the restart, Manthey quickly shot into the third spot behind McMullen while the field raced top to bottom all over the slick speedway. The final caution flew with five laps remaining which set up a five lap dash to the finish. When the green waved, Manthey climbed the hill in turn one blasting by Timm for the lead on the high side of the speedway exiting turn two. From there on out it was all Manthey stretching his lead going on to take yet another Redwood Speedway win. Ryan McMullen turned in a great run coming home in the second spot with Dan Veenstra third, Andy Windschitl fourth, and David Jaeger the final member of the top five.
After a couple yellows halted action early on, the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds got their feature event underway with Brett Trebesch taking the early lead. Fourth starter Tyler Limoges quickly moved into second on lap one while the field battled behind. Limoges pulled even with Trebesch as the duo drag raced down the backstretch for the lead on lap two. Limoges grabbed some bite on the bottom of the speedway and took the lead from Trebesch exiting turn four. After changing a tire one lap into the event, Dan Menk began his charge back to the front from the 10th starting spot. Menk moved into the top five just six laps into the event while eighth starter Tim Ims moved into second. Limoges held a healthy advantage over Ims while the hard charging Menk was still on the move. With three laps remaining, Menk had successfully closed up on the backside of Ims for the runner up spot. On the final trip around, Menk was able to steal the spot from Ims grabbing the runner up spot in the process. Out front it was all Limoges taking the win. Menk charged from the back to grab a strong second place finish ahead of Ims, Adam Ecker, and Hector, MN driver Ryan Schleusner. Limoges and Ims took heat race wins earlier in the evening for the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds.
Pat Kohn took the lead on lap one of the IMCA Stock Car main event. Kohn looked strong and was scored the leader at the conclusion of the first circuit. Fourth starter Michael Bruns quickly moved up into the second spot and was able to take the lead from Kohn on lap four. Back in traffic, Dan Mackenthun and Ken Tietz began to march their machines toward the front. Mackenthun and Tietz each entered the top five with five laps remaining while Bruns held a half of a straight away lead out front. Dave Moriarty settled into a groove early on in the second spot while the pack of wild dogs were in hot pursuit behind. Tietz was able to work by Mackenthun for the third spot with three laps remaining while Bruns was gone out front. In the end it was Bruns taking the win over Moriarty, Tietz, Mackenthun, and Shaun Bruns. Bob Rebstock took the win in heat race one with Michael Bruns completing his clean sweep with a win in heat race two.
The IMCA Sprint Car A-main was won by Curt Lund. Bingham Lake, MN driver AJ Stevens looked as if he might have the car to beat before Lund was able to make the pass for the lead with five laps remaining. Stevens, however, looked very tough throughout the A-main taking home a second place finish with Scott VanMaanen third, Dan Menk fourth, and Richard Smith fifth. Lund and 2009 UMSS Sprint Car Champion Leigh Thomas each scored heat race wins earlier in the show for the IMCA Sprint Cars, who started 11 entrants.
After a couple of early yellows, The IMCA Modified A-main got underway with Jeff Maasch taking the early lead. Maasch looked strong out front and was scored the leader at the conclusion of the first lap. By lap four, Brandon Beckendorf had successfully moved his way into the top three after going to the back for changing a tire on the first lap of the race. On lap five, Beckendorf and Larry Revier worked side by side into turn three in a battle for position. Beckendorf and Revier made contact with the call going against Beckendorf. Beckendorf tagged the end of the field with 10 laps remaining with Maasch still out front on the restart. Maasch once again took off to a nice advantage while Beckendorf wasted little time entering the top five once again. Beckendorf used the high side of the speedway while most of the cars worked near the inside tire barrier. Beckendorf and Revier once again danced side by side with seven laps remaining, this time with Beckendorf making the pass for the second spot. Beckendorf quickly closed in on the backside of Maasch making the pass for the lead with six laps remaining while Mike Gregg moved into third. Beckendorf steadily checked out on second place Maasch who was now in a battle for position with Gregg and Revier. In the end, however, it was Maasch holding the spot. Out front it was Beckendorf taking the win. Maasch turned in his best run to date in the second spot with Gregg third, Revier fourth, and Josh Rogotzke fifth.
