A little Overview from Boone (September 6th, 2012)

Modifieds:

Curt Lund ended up starting in the 30th and final spot and moved all the way up to 11th (left rear slider broke on the car or Curt was probably going to make it in after moving by some very strong cars), finishing three spots out of qualifying for Saturday night’s A-main. Although Curt is not in the big show, he gained valuable points if he’s not able to qualify tonight (each driver gains points in each division every time they are on the track which helps them start closer to the front in the qualifying events which is VERY important).

I haven’t talked to Dan Menk but I know Dan exited the qualifying feature early on after his heat race win. Dan also gained valuable points by making it into the A-main. Hopefully Dan will have another strong run and give himself another opportunity to make the big show. Dan was scored in the 28th finishing position which gives him the 28th most points out of the nearly 300 Modifieds on hand!

Tyler Limoges started ninth and finished second in his heat race and followed it up by outlasting former SuperNationals Champion Ron Pope on his way to a B-main win. Although the B-main victory does not get you into any A-main, it gives you the most possible cumulative points without making a qualifying feature. This will undoubtedly help Tyler as the week goes on.

Like Tyler, Brandon Beckendorf did well for himself finishing in third behind Pope in B-main #2, which was won by Limoges. Brandon finished second in the heat race won by Menk and his third place finish will give Brandon a solid number of cumulative points going into Thursday.

Trent Loverude did very well starting in the back of his heat and charging forward to finish second. From there, Trent finished seventh in his B-main which like others will help him as the week goes on. I talked to Trent earlier today and he told me he finished 5th in his B-main so there could be a possibility a car or two got disqualified in front of him. Very solid job by Trent!

Glenwood, MN driver Tom Silver turned his first ever laps at the Boone Speedway starting sixth and finishing third. Tom turned some strong laps in his B-main finishing 10th. Tom will look to improve upon that today.

Two-thousand Eleven Redwood Speedway IMCA Modified track Champion Josh Rogotzke had a tough night on Wednesday. He took home a fifth place run in his heat race and was scored 16th in his B-main. The great thing about Boone is you have another chance, and we’ll see if Josh can get something going today!

Despite his sixth place finish in his heat race, Dalton Magers accounted for himself very well in a stacked heat race. With drivers like Luke Wanninger and Ricky Alvarado in his heat race, Dalton did a wonderful job finishing sixth. Because you need to finish in the top five to qualify for a B-main, Dalton will have to regroup and try to get in again today. Good luck, Dalton!

Stock Cars:

Like I mentioned yesterday, Dan Mackenthun looked to be the class of the field taking home a heat race win and a second place finish in the night’s qualifying A-main. Dan will start the feature from the second row inside starting spot. Nice work, Dan!

Ken Tietz finished second in his heat, third in his B-main and ultimately 14th in the night’s A-main qualifier. Although Ken has not qualified for the Super Feature on Saturday as of yet, this definitely was a good points day for the Three-time Redwood Speedway Track Champion.

Bob Rebstock finished fifth in his heat, 12th in his C-main. Bob will give it another try again today!

Essig, MN driver Brad Scheibel had a nice day at Boone. He turned in a great run finishing third in his heat race and followed that up with a second in his C-main. Brad will look to accumulate more points today before wiping the slate clean and trying to qualifying through the A-main qualifier again tonight.

Shaun Bruns – Sixth in heat race, 5th in C-main. Try again today, we all know Shaun can do it!

Sport Mods and Hobby’s:

We were unable to qualify any speedway regulars for these main events. Although Matt Looft and Justin Remus were very competitive, they were not lucky enough to qualify for Saturday’s Super Feature.

We provided a tough contingent of IMCA Hobby Stock Competitors but none were able to qualify for Saturday’s Super Feature. Good job fellas, you represented yourselves and the speedway very well!

Sport Compact Top Finishing Regulars (These drivers ran their entire program on Tuesday night)

Nate Coopman – 11th
Aaron Betz – 20th
Megan Lappegard – 22nd
Stephanie Forsberg – 25th (Won her heat race!)

I’ll do my best to keep everyone posted and if I missed anyone, I apologize. I’m trying to get stuff done for work, update everything from season championship night and work on some other things, as well.

Good luck to all our regular drivers that support us each and every Sunday night, we’ve undoubtedly got some of the best in the country!

Thanks,

Ray

Redwood Falls, MN (August 26th, 2012) - Spencer, Iowa traveler Megan Lappegard made history Sunday night by becoming the first driver other than Nate Coopman and Aaron Betz to record an IMCA Sport Compact feature win at Redwood Speedway. In the night’s headliner Brandon Beckendorf made it his second win in as many weeks in the IMCA Modified division while Ken Tietz stormed to victory in the IMCA Stock Car finale. Matt Looft continued his unbelievable 2012 season by scoring yet another win in the IMCA Sport Mod main event while Chris Isaacson secured his 2012 track championship with a win in the IMCA Hobby Stock A-main. Rod Manthey (Outlaw Hobby Stocks) and Jake Frietag (Bombers) each took wins as well during Weltsch Equipment night at the Redhouse.

With Frank Billmeier and Monte Heiderscheidt battling it out for the 2012 Track Championship all eyes were on the two competitors when the Bombers rolled out onto the speedway for their main event. On this night, however, it was Jake Frietag taking the lead from the drop the green leading all 12 laps on his way to his first victory of the season. Behind Frietag it was a mob season with Tim Huseby, Nic Heiderscheidt, Matt Olson and Billmeier battling for position. In the end it was all Frietag taking the victory ahead of Huseby, Nic Heiderscheidt, Olson and Billmeier. Next Sunday night a champion will be crowned for the Bombers who have put on some might entertaining events all season long.

Up next was the IMCA Sport Compact feature event with Spencer, Iowa’s Megan Lappegard taking the early lead. With Lappegard out front, Aaron Betz and Nate Coopman quickly moved up to second and third respectively. As the laps clicked off Betz and Coopman drew closer to Lappegard. On the final trip around, however, Lappegard made zero mistakes on her way to his first ever Redwood Speedway win. Betz, Coopman, Stephanie Forsberg and Nikkya Betz rounded out the top five behind Lappegard. With this triumph not only did Lappegard become the first driver to win an IMCA sanctioned Sport Compact event at Redwood Speedway other than Nate Coopman and Aaron Betz, she also became the first female to record an IMCA Sport Compact Feature win at Redwood Speedway. Congrats to Megan on a truly ground breaking feature win.

Although Ryan McMullen led early on it was Rod Manthey taking yet another win in the Outlaw Hobby Stock A-main. Manthey ran strong using the middle groove throughout the duration of the race to score the victory. Jayson Firle edged Dan Veenstra for the runner up position with Randy Fischer and Andy Windschitl also taking home top five performances, as well. Fischer reined victorious in the division’s lone qualifier earlier in the evening for Outlaw Hobby Stocks, whose Swan Song will take place next Sunday night.

The IMCA Hobby Stock finale featured a great two car battle between track champion Chris Isaacson and last week’s feature winner, Tory Harazin. Harazin led early on before Isaacson used a mid-race restart to take the lead and eventually the win. Brennen Boettger moved by a couple cars late in the race to take over the third spot with Wes Jahnz fourth and Josh Telecky the final member of the top five. Tory Harazin took the win in heat one with Boettger scoring the victory in heat two.

The IMCA Sport Mods were next to roll out onto the speedway with Jordan Meine taking the early advantage. Third row starter Adam Ecker quickly moved to the top side of the speedway overtaking Meine for the lead on lap five. Back in traffic current point leader Matt Looft began to make his way to the front. While most cars worked the high side of the speedway, Looft pedaled his #9 machine around the bottom. With two laps remaining the final caution of the evening erased Ecker’s large advantage which put Looft and Meine on the back bumper of Ecker for the two lap dash to the finish. When the green dropped over the field, Looft made a bonsai move to the inside of Ecker as the duo raced through turns one and two. Ecker edged ahead down the backstretch with Looft right on his rear bumper. Ecker chose the top groove with Looft down in the ditch. With the white flag showing Ecker and Looft came by the flagstand in a virtual tie. Once again Looft went back to the bottom with Ecker up top. The duo drag raced down the backstretch dead even as they entered turn three. Ecker blasted his #8 machine in on the cushion but was unable to hold the line as he slipped over the banking allowing Looft to go by and take the victory. Meine took home the second spot with Larry Revier, Josh Larsen and Brett Trebesch all able to sneak by Ecker who finished the event in sixth.

The IMCA Stock Car A-main proved to be a dandy with 11th starter Ken Tietz taking the win. Tietz, who jumped behind the wheel of a new B&B Racing Chassis one week ago, used the bottom of the track early to move up into the top five before gaining the lead via the cushion. Tenth starter Shaun Bruns followed Tietz to the front battling with Kenny for several laps before Gary Mattison was able to steal second from Shaun during a late restart. Out front it was all Tietz bringing home the feature hardware ahead of Mattison, Shaun Bruns, Patrick Kohn and Dan Mackenthun. Clay Steele took the win in heat one while Mattison took the victory in heat two.

In the IMCA Modified headliner it was all Brandon Beckendorf taking home his second Redwood Speedway feature win of the season. Beckendorf, who started ninth, jumped out front during the middle stages of the event on his way to victory. Perhaps the most impressive run of the evening, however, was turned in by Danube, MN driver Justin Bjorklund. Bjorklund, who wasn’t able to finish his heat race, stormed from dead last on the starting grid to finish third in a very strong field of cars. In the end it was Beckendorf taking home the victory ahead of Tyler Limoges, Bjorklund, Josh Rogotzke and Jeff Maasch.

Next Sunday night will mark the final racing event of the 2012 season at Redwood Speedway. Season Championship night will be brought to you by Jackpot Junction Casino & Hotel. Champions will be crowned in the remaining seven divisions with racing starting at 5:30. We hope to see you all there!

Tonight Redwood Speedway welcomes the Minnesota River Valley Riders ATV Club as a part of the 2nd Annual Nick Warner Memorial. Because of the added time invested in honoring our fallen friend, the IMCA Sprint Cars will have the night off.

Tonight’s races are brought to you by Weltsch Equipment with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Hobby Stocks, Outlaw Hobby Stocks, IMCA Sport Compacts and Bombers all on the program. The weather forecast looks great for tonight so come on out and enjoy one of the final few events of the season tonight at the high speed 1/2 mile!

Heading into tonight Danube, MN driver Brandon Beckendorf holds a one point advantage over Curt Lund for the track’s IMCA Modified track championship. Josh Rogotzke currently sits third with Tyler Limoges and Justin Anderson also in the top five, as well.

On the strength of a tremendous season Danube, MN’s own Shaun Bruns currently sits atop in the IMCA Stock Car standings a healthy 36 markers ahead of three time and defending champion, Ken Tietz. Dan Mackenthun sits in the third spot with Bob Rebstock fourth and Jake Bruns fifth.

Consistency has proved to be the name of the game for Swea City, Iowa IMCA Sport Mod ace, Matt Looft. Looft, who owns an 18-point lead over Adam Ecker, has finished no worse than 3rd at Redwood Speedway thus far in 2012. Jordan Meine and Kyle Remus are currently locked in a tie for the third spot while veteran Larry Revier rounds out the top five.

One of the tightest points races ever witnessed in Redwood Speedway history is right now taking place in the Outlaw Hobby Stock division with just two points nights remaining. Sleepy Eye’s Randy Fischer, on the strength of consistency all season, holds a one marker advantage over Jayson Firle of Fairfax. Clements, MN ace Dan Veenstra is just two points back of Fischer while fourth place running Ryan McMullen is just four points back. Andy Windschitl still has a chance to make something happen as well during the final two weeks as he sits a mere 12 points out in 5th.

Due to the IMCA Hobby Stocks getting underway at Boone Speedway next Sunday/Monday, tonight with be there final points race of the 2012 season. Barring tragedy New Ulm’s Chris Isaacson will be crowned your 2012 IMCA Hobby Stock track champion. The battle for second, however, is still a good one. Last year’s Champion Wes Jahnz holds a five point lead over Josh Telecky for the second spot with Brennen Boettger and Trevor Serbus members of the top five, as well. Good luck to all the Hobby Stocks heading down to Boone to try their luck at the IMCA SuperNationals!

The husband and wife duo of Aaron and Nikkya Betz currently sit atop the point standings in the IMCA Sport Compact division. Aaron leads Nikkya by 19 points with two events remaining while defending National champion Nate Coopman remains within striking distance in third. Ben Wilhelmi and Stephanie Forsberg round out the top five for the Sport Compacts, who have put on some tremendous events this season.

With two events remaining Frank Billmeier holds a seven point advantage over veteran Monte Heiderscheidt in the battle for the Bomber hardware. Billmeier has been strong all season long, it will interesting to see how this one plays out with the veteran Heiderscheidt within striking distance. Matt Olson, Nathan Gegner and second generation racer Nic Heiderscheidt are all members of the current top five for the Bombers, who have had the fans on their feet several times throughout the 2012 season.

Last but not least the IMCA Sprint Cars will put a cap on their season next Sunday night at Redwood Speedway. In what will prove to be a nerve racking night for the two parties involved, Mike Stien and Cam Schafer are all square with 274 points a piece heading into the final evening (9/02/2012). Come on out to see who will be crowned champion in 2012. Current IMCA Sprint Car National Rookie of the Year points leader Reed Allex sits in the third spot ahead of Curt Lund and Bruce Allen.

The folks at Redwood Speedway would like to thank all the fans, pit crew members, sponsors and drivers that have made the 2012 season a great one. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you tonight at the Redwood County Fairgrounds, 5:30 start time!
